Vyborg was founded to address the Regent of Sweden's King Torgilsa (Torkkelya) Knutsson in 1293
during one of the crusades in the earth, the population of Karelia. So at the Castle Island
has a strong castle, called Vyborg. He became a reliable outpost of propagation
Swedish influence on the land of Karelian Isthmus, and remained impregnable for several centuries.
During the Northern War Vyborg again made outpost Sweden on the Karelian isthmus,
and, after the fall of Noteburg (Nuts) and Nienschanz (Russian name - office) in Ingermanlandii,
became a good base from which the Swedes threatened just based Petersburg. In 1706
Peter I made the first attempt to capture the Swedish fortress, and, personally leading the campaign beset
Vyborg, but to no avail. Only in 1710 the city was captured by Russian troops and fleet,
Nishtadtskomu on a peace treaty in 1721 officially became part of the Russian Empire.
