Engineers' Castle


Engineers'(Mikhajlovsky) castle - embodiment of the dream of emperor Pavel I. It greatly hurried with building of its lock. Emperor required of the architect v. I. Bazhenov, so that the residence would be created on the model of unapproachable medieval fortress.


It seemed it that after the high walls and ditches with the water it will be out of danger. Building began in 1797 and ended in 1800. But the romantic and torn from the life emperor was killed on forty first night of a stay in the lock by his approximated.


And building was empty up to 20 years of the nineteenth century, when Engineering academy there was placed.
