St Isaak Cathedral is the largest building of the middle of the nineteenth century. Construction has begun in 1818 under the project of architect O. Monferran.

Nobody could foresee difficulties with what builders have collided. Construction of the cathedral proceeded forty years till 1858, and has demanded enormous work of many thousand people.

Magnificent gold dome of St Isaak cathedral is visible from apart. Before construction of the cathedral in the city were no so huge buildings.
