In the very center of Saint Petersburg is located famous museum - The Hermitage. It includes the Winter Palace, Small Hermitage, Old Hermitage, Ermitazhnyy theater, New Hermitage.

The Winter Palace was built in the style of baroque according to the project F.B. Rastrelly in 1754 -1762 years. This - the fourth, the now existing Winter Palace, exceeding all previous on the sizes and the splendour and architectural finishing.

The strong fire of 17-19 December of 1837 destroyed utterly entire splendid finishing of the Winter Palace. After fire were preserved only the walls and arches, and also detail on the facades. In 1838-1839 the palace was restored.
